Planning a Day on Belle Isle
Belle Isle sits in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. It’s home to the James Scott Memorial Fountain, a conservatory, an aquarium, beaches and miles of roads and paths for walking and biking.
Know before you go
Belle Isle Park is managed as a Michigan state park, so vehicles need a Recreation Passport to enter. Check the park’s official page for current hours, events and any closures.
Pack for the day
- Water in an insulated bottle.
- Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
- A blanket or chairs for a picnic.
- A small first aid kit and a charged phone.
Stay safe by the water
The Detroit River has strong currents. Swim only at designated beaches during posted times, and keep a close eye on children near the shoreline.
Leave it better
Use trash and recycling bins, keep pets leashed and give wildlife space so the island stays beautiful for everyone.
